Iowa State Classic Recap
The Drake track & field team racked up several event victories and personal bests in the Iowa State Classic hosted inside the Lied Recreation Athletic Center on Saturday, Feb. 3.
"All event areas were solid today," head coach
Jay Koloseus said. "We had finalists in sprints and the throwers continued to roll. Our distance athletes really showed out with three winners. Nearly every Drake women's track athlete who ran set a personal best."
Centaine Noom-Duckworth once again matched her school record weight throw of 62-3.75" for third place in the event while
Chinemerem Iwuagwu set a personal best of 56-9.75" on her third attempt.
Adam Phillips turned in a runner-up weight throw performance of 69-6.00" with
Anthony Barmes in third (69-0.00").
Emilie Meyer won the women's 800m with a time of 2:11.53 followed by
Amanda Radava in fourth with her personal record of 2:15.24. For the third consecutive meet,
Savannah Ming qualified for the 60m finals.
Brooke Mullins (9:35.33) and
Carmen Krawczynski Gonzalez (9:37.82) were second and third place respectively in the women's 3000m run.
On the men's side, Drake swept the top four places of the 3000m run with

Brogan Giffin (PR, 8:05.64) as
Aziz Jdai (PR, 8:09.39) and

Barbara Vrhovac ran a personal best of 4:58.90 in the women's mile.

School Records/Athletes of the Week
During the Iowa State Holiday Invitational on Dec. 9,
Centaine Noom-Duckworth set a new school record in the women's weight throw with a heave of 18.99m (62-3 3/4) before matching it at the Black & Gold Invitational last week's Iowa State Classic.
Adam Phillips won the Cyclone Open men's weight throw on Friday, Jan. 19 after a school record toss of 21.61m/70' 10.75". That measurement currently ranks first in MVC and 11th in the NCAA (highest-ever NCAA ranking for a Drake weight thrower). He is also currently the highest nationally-ranked thrower in the MVC.
Phillips was named MVC Men's Field Athlete of the Week on Jan. 25 while Noom-Duckworth earned MVC Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors on Feb. 1.
Isaac Basten was named MVC Men's Track Athlete of the Week on Thursday, Feb. 8.
