The Basics
Following a packed weekend with three matches, the Bulldogs will play one match this weekend on the road against the Wichita State Shockers on Sunday, January 26 at 11 a.m.
Bulldogs by the Numbers
Drake is 2-1 on the young season, with wins over Saint Louis and Grand View and a loss to Nebraska. The Bulldogs began their season with a 0-7 loss against Nebraska on the road but traveled back to Des Moines the next day where they won two matches.
The first match last Sunday was against Saint Louis, and the Bulldogs extended their all-time advantage over the Billikens to 6-0 with a 4-1 win. Then, Drake took down the cross-town Grand View Vikings 7-0.
Ben Johnson was a standout for Drake in these two matches, going 1-0 in doubles play and 2-0 in singles play, including a shutout 6-0, 6-0 win in the first singles position against Grand View.
Jose Alessandro Hernandez and
Logan Tomovski were double winners in both matches, and
Adan Tarquino was a double winner against Grand View.
Scouting the Competition
The Shockers, who went 5-18 last season, are 0-2 to start the year. Their spring campaign kicked off last week with two matches against the University of Central Florida and South Florida, losing 1-6 and 2-5, respectively.
Wichita State's Kristof Minarik has competed in the top singles and doubles spot this season, accompanied by Alejandro Jacome in doubles. Minarik, a redshirt junior from Boldog, Slovakia, is still searching for his first singles win of the year, but he and Jacome are undefeated in doubles.
Drake and Wichita State have a long history in men's tennis, with Drake holding a 20-9 all-time advantage. The two teams met last year in Des Moines and Drake won 5-2.

The Bulldogs will hit the road for a trio of matches in Wisconsin next weekend. They'll play at Marquette on Friday, Jan. 31 at 10 a.m., then travel to Madison to play Western Michigan on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. and Wisconsin on Feb. 2 at 10 a.m.
