FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Drake women's tennis team was on the road for the second straight weekend to start the 2025 spring season. The Bulldogs were swept by Arkansas 7-0 and 4-0 in another Saturday double-header.
 
The Bulldogs were able to earn a victory in doubles play for the second time in as many weeks as Nicole Lee, a member of the defending MVC Doubles Team of the Week, paired with newcomer Jana Ruzic in the No. 3 spot. Lee and Ruzic pulled off a 6-3 upset of Arkansas' Katie Ferguson and Jimena Gomez Alonso.
 
The Razorbacks went on to earn the doubles point after victories in the first and second matches.
 
Arkansas also secured the 7-0 sweep with straight-set victories in all six singles bouts. Shiori Takeda, another of Drake's new crop of Bulldogs, put together the most serious challenge at No. 5. She fell to Katarina Pavlechova, but put up a fight resulting in the 6-2, 7-5 final.
 
The Razorbacks continued to flourish in the second match of the day. Lee and Ruzic could not recreate their dynamic play in doubles and the Arkansas singles players upheld their previous level of play.
 
Drake is now 0-2 on the season and will return home for four straight matches in Des Moines. The first of those entanglements will take place on Friday, Feb. 7 against DePaul.
