AMES, Iowa – Drake track and field executed well in another trip to Ames for the Iowa State Classic on Saturday. The Bulldogs got contributions from all facets of their bunch with three women's wins and a men's title highlighting the outing.
Tyla Lumley took the women's 5,000m crown with a time of 16:25.29.
Emilie Meyer also earned an individual win in the women's 800m with a solid showing of 2:09.45. Meyer also teamed up with
Savannah Ming,
Briandrias Rhodes, and
Madison Bunton to capture first place in the women's 4x400 relay with a time of 3:54.06.
Ming added a fifth-place finish in the women's 60m dash with a sprint of 7.71 seconds.
The Bulldogs' fourth win came on the men's side as
Brogan Giffin outran the mile field in 3:59.49 to take first place.
Aidan Ramsey chalked a runner-up finish with an 8:09.23 time in the men's 3,000m, good enough for second place.
Bowen Martin (14:28.76) and
Juan Trasobares (14:36.43) went back-to-back in the men's 5,000m with placements of fourth and fifth, respectively.
Drake Dombrosky,
Hayden Cross,
Dylan DeAngelo, and
Dyer Jarabek combined for another fourth-place finish in the men's 4x400 relay with a mark of 3:19.70. Dombrosky added an eighth-place finish in the men's 400m (49.78) and ninth-place result in the men's 200m dash (22.34).
Justin Cunningham narrowly clipped Dombrosky in the 200 with an eighth-place time of his own (22.21).
Centaine Noom-Duckworth highlighted the Bulldogs' field event efforts with a third-place weight throw of 19.37m/63'-6.75". The shot putting trio of
Lara Smits (14.75m/48'-4.75"),
Cooper Cerese (17.02m/55'-10.25"), and
Maud Visscher (14.10m/46'-3.25") finished in fourth, fourth, and sixth, respectively.
Sam Carpenter rounded out the men's field events with a throw of 19.17m/62'-10.75" in the weight throw, good enough for eighth place, while
Zofia Landowska long jumped 5.22m/17'-1.5", a leap worthy of ninth.
"We had a fabulous day up in Ames," Drake head coach
Jay Koloseus said. "All event areas showed out and we are showing a ton of growth as we get closer to championships. We left today with 28 personal records and six top 10 all-time marks, plus a new school record and sub-four-minute mile."
Drake will be back in action next weekend at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark from Feb. 14-15.
