Tulsa, Okla. — The Bulldogs completed a scrimmage race this past weekend against the University of Tulsa. All the team's hard work during spring training culminated in the race against the Golden Hurricanes.
"I am so proud of how the team trained this season down at spring training," Head Coach
Charlie DiSilvestro said. "We put them through some very difficult workouts; they didn't complain, and they made it through."
DiSilvestro was proud of the team's coxswains, who worked on their technique and motivated the team throughout spring training. DiSilvestro gave a specific shout-out to Kaylee Counter, who joined the team about five days before they left for spring training. He said she did a great job learning the sport through two practices each day. She jumped right into the fire and did an amazing job.
DiSilvestro also said the team captains did a great job keeping a positive attitude and raising team morale. Assistant coach
Breanna Roney was exceptional at communicating with the team about expectations.
The hard training led to the Tulsa exhibition, which DiSilvestro said was an amazing day.
"We went up against a very fast Tulsa crew and appreciate them hosting us today," DiSilvestro said after the race. "We did a series of controlled rating pieces, and they were ahead of us but we held our own, fought hard and everybody came off the water feeling very positive about the rest of the season."
Drake's season continues Saturday, March 29 at Creighton, which will be a true head-to-head race instead of a scrimmage.
