DES MOINES, Iowa – Drake track and field was represented around the country this weekend with Bulldogs participating at three different events. Drake athletes competed at the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State, WashU Distance Carnival, and Central College Outdoor Meet.
Raleigh Relays
Two of Drake's premier distance runners traveled to North Carolina's capital city for the Raleigh Relays.
Tyla Lumley posted a fifth-place finish in the women's 10,000 with a time of 33:51.78.
Emilie Meyer also competed in Raleigh and finished sixth in the 800 with a time of 2:05.69 and 17th in the 1500 with a mark of 4:19.51.
WashU Distance Carnival
Another portion of Drake distance stable was in St. Louis for the WashU Distance Carnival.
Breanna Burak led the women's roster with a 12th-place finish in her section with a 5000-meter time of 16:54.49.
Chiara Belfico ran in the 10k and came across in 37:19.38.
Drake's men's contingent in St. Louis all ran in the 14th section of the 5000.
Aidan Palmer led that group in 12th place with a pace of 14:19.88.
Aziz Jdai finished 13th in 14:22.11, Connor Visnis finished in 17
th in 14:30.49, and
Aidan Ramsey rounded out that crew with a 20th-place finish in 14:38.99.
Central College Outdoor Meet
The bulk of the Bulldog track and field team made the short trip to Pella for the Central College Outdoor Meet. Drake posted eight individual winners and several other top five finishers.
Justin Cunningham was the lone men's winner on the track as he ran the fastest 200-meter time of 21.10.
Savannah Ming took the women's 200-meter crown with a time of 24.13. Other track winners were
Madison Bunton in the women's 400 with a sprint of 1:00.77 and
Briandrias Rhodes in the women's 100 with a time of 12.02.
Field event winners included three men and a women's champ.
Adam Phillips won the weight throw with a heave of 59.53m/195'-4" while
Ethan Elliott captured the top spot in the shot put with a throw of 17.08m/56'-0.5", and
Christopher Norris in the javelin with a toss of 54.47m/178'-8".
Rhodes also took second in the women's 200 (24.59) and was joined by
Zofia Landowska's 100 (12.13) and
Hannah Kilday's 3000 (11:29.85) as runners-up.
Gracie Foster was just behind Kilday in that same 3000-meter race with a time of 11:45.20, good enough for fourth. Emmaline Nau and
Hayden Cross also earned fourth place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles (14.96) and men's 200 (21.34), respectively.
Drake Dombrosky was the third Bulldog in the top five of the men's 200-meter field with a time of 21.39.
Vanessa Lee also earned a top five placement in the women's 800 with a run of 2:31.81.
A foursome of Bulldogs earned runner-up honors in the field events.
Cooper Cerese (shot put, 17.02m/55'-10.25") and
Sam Carpenter (hammer throw, 58.88m/193'-2") were the men's second-place winner while
Lara Smits (shot put, 13.94m/45'-9") and
Chinemerem Iwuagwu (hammer throw, 53.28m/174'-10") earned second for the women.
Maud Visscher's 43.30m/142'-1" discus throw and 46.79m/153'-6" hammer throw were good enough for third and fifth, respectively.
Sam Carpenter (48.34m/158'-7") and
Adam Phillips (48.27m/158'-4") went back-to-back in fourth and fifth in the men's discus.
The Bulldogs will be back in action next weekend at the Wartburg College Outdoor Select from April 4-5.
