COLUMBIA, Mo. – Drake track and field had another respectable outing to start their 2026 schedule with a trip to the Dr. Rick McGuire Invitational hosted by the Missouri Tigers from Jan. 30-31. Drake earned a few first-place finishes along with several other solid marks at a competitive meet in Columbia.
Day 1
Adam Phillips took third in the men's weight throw, which had Bulldogs littered among the top finishers. Phillips' heave of 20.19m/66-3 edged out fourth place finisher
Sam Carpenter at 19.85m/65-1 1/2.
Cole Brandt and
Ethan Elliott rounded out Drake's weight throwers in fifth place (17.86m/58-7 1/4) and sixth place (17.45m/57-3), respectively.
Maud Visscher and Chinemerem Iwaugwu both place inside the top 11 of the women's weight throw contest. Visscher tossed 16.16m/53-1/4 while Iwuagwu fired off a 16.00m/52-6.
On the track, Drake boasted a trio of top finishers in the women's 5000.
Amilia Condon led the pack in fifth place with a time of 18:14.02.
Sophia Agan and
Fabi Gipson crossed the line in seventh and eighth with respective times of 18:24.62 and 18:27.04.
Marieli Estrello added a ninth-place finish in the women's 200 with a sprint of 25.58.
Drake Dombrosky was part of the men's 200 field and posted a 13th place time of 22.24.
Carter Beasley,
Berkley Munnings,
Gaven Corpin, and
Juan Trasobares combined forces in the men's distance medley relay to run 9:48.18, good enough for fourth place.
Day 2
Drake saw several more impressive performances on the second day of the Dr. Rick McGuire Invitational, three of which resulted in first place finishes.
Elliott followed up his MVC Men's Field Athelte of the Week effort with another gold in the men's shot put at 18.25m/59-10 1/2. Beasley added a first-place finish in the men's 800 with a time of 1:49.68 while
Kayci Martensen won the women's mile in 4:46.23.
Gaven Corpin posted the Dogs' second top 10 time of the night in the men's 800 at 1:54.65.
Visscher finished as the runner-up in the women's shot put with a launch of 14.09m/46-2 3/4.
Trasobares and
Ella Brown each logged a fifth-place result with times of 4:04.67 in the men's mile and 2:13.85 in the women's 800, respectively.
Lanse Larsen ran 4:07.95 to take eighth in the mile field while
Gracie Federspiel took 11th in the women's 800 at 2:19.34.
Josiah Rainey sprinted his was to a sixth-place finish in the men's 60m dash at 7.01.
Anastasia Kirillov and
Brenden Heitzig represented the Bulldogs in the women's and men's 3000 races. Kirillov took seventh in 9:31.12 while Heitzig crossed the line in ninth at 8:05.93.
Dombrosky had another solid showing in the men's 400, this time taking seventh in 48.91.
Josie Dufoe rounded out Drake's effort in the women's 60m hurdles with an eighth-place run of 9.40.
The Bulldogs will return to a familiar setting next week for the Iowa State Classic on Feb. 6 in Ames.
