PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Drake women's golf team wrapped up competition at the PING ASU Invitational on Wednesday and finished in 16th among the loaded 16-team field, which featured eight programs ranked inside the top-50, with a final score of 923. The Bulldogs shot scores of 314-307-302 over the three days of play.
USC, the No. 2 ranked team in the country, ran away with the team title and won the tournament with a final score of 841. The Trojans shot a team score of 17-under, 271 on the first day clearing themselves of the competition. Hosts Arizona State finished in second place 11 strokes behind the Trojans at 852.
For Drake,
Julie Huggins led the team on the individual leaderboard and placed inside the top-25, tying for 23rd. The senior finished the tournament with a total score of 1-over, 217 and bounced back from an opening round 5-over, 77 with consecutive rounds of 2-under, 70. Her second and third rounds of 70 were the only rounds under par for the Bulldogs in the tournament.
The rest of the Bulldog lineup all finished outside the top-70.
Amber Henson tied for 71st after carding a 232 (75-82-75),
Erika Holmberg finished tied for 79th at 235 (84-74-77),
Kate Connolly tied for 85th with a 239 (78-81-80), and
Rylee Heryford ended in solo 88th at 250 (88-82-80).
Individual medalist honors went to Davina Xanh of Cal State Fullerton who fired a final total of 208 (68-72-68).
Drake will hit the course next for the Stampede at the Creek, April 13-14, at The Club at Indian Creek in Omaha, Nebraska.
