PELLA, IOWA -- The Drake women's track and field team, receiving a balanced effort, won four events en route to capturing the team championship in the 17-team Central Invitational Saturday. The Bulldogs tallied 131 points to out distance runner-up Minnesota-Duluth which scored 103.83
Freshman
Ari Curtis (Fort Collins, Colo.) soared 39 feet 1/4 inches to win the triple jump, while finishing second in the 200-meter dash in 25.79 seconds.
Drake sophomore teammate
Caitlin Able (Aurora, Colo.) won the 200 in 25.47 and placed second in the 100 in 12.49.
The Bulldogs also won the 4x100 (49.35) and 4x400 (3:53.25) relays.
Freshman
Casey McDermott (Newton, Iowa) was second in the 800 in 2:20.15, while placing fifth in the 1,500 (4:41.23). Sophomore
Tara Scieszinski was second in the 3,000 steeplechase in 12:25.93. Freshman
Johanna Sprang (New Brighton, Minn.) was second in the pole vault (10-11.75). Freshman
Michelle Mitchell (Brookfield, Wis.) was third in high jump at 5-3.
Junior
Nicole Braunsdorf (St. Francis, Wis.) was third in the 800 (2:20.16) and sixth in the 1,500 (4:41.43). Freshman
Cambria Pardner (Aurora, Colo.) was third in the 100 (12.59) and fourth in the 200 (25.99), while freshman
Tara Laferrara (Highland Ranch, Colo.) was fifth in both the 100 (12.79) and 200 (26.23).
