MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The Drake softball team finished the Metrodome
Classic 4-1, defeating host Minnesota 2-1 in eight innings Sunday (Feb.
15).
Sophomore pitcher Brynne Dordel (Chanhassen, Minn. /Chaska) collected her second
consecutive win, going the distance for the Bulldogs. Dordel
threw a four-hitter, while collecting seven strikeouts and walking three in eight
innings.
Minnesota scored in the bottom of the first capitalizing on three walks and a
double.
Drake answered in the top of the third when Torey Craddock Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe
Catholic) drew a walk and advanced to second off a wild pitch. Kelsey Kahler (North Liberty,
Iowa/Clear Creek-Amana) and Elena Leon
(West Des Moines, Iowa /Valley) each drew a walk, loading the bases. Bridget Shields (
Iowa City, Iowa/West)
struck out swinging on a wild
pitch, scoring Craddock.
In the top of the eighth Leon, who started the inning on
second, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Shields. Erin Mollohan (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) collected the Bulldogs'
only RBI, reaching base on a fielder's choice and scoring Leon.
In the bottom of the eighth with a runner on third and one
out, Dordel struck out two batters to secure the win for Drake.
Craddock collected the Bulldogs' only hit.
The Bulldogs return to action Friday (Feb. 20) against Texas
Tech at the New Mexico Invitational. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
