ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The Drake softball team improved to 5-1 on the season with a 5-2 win over
Texas Tech at the New Mexico Invitational Friday (Feb. 20).
Sophomore pitcher Brynne Dordel (Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska) moved to
3-0 with a complete-game five hitter, collecting nine strikeouts and allowing two
walks in seven innings.
Drake got on the board in the bottom of the first with a lead-off
home run by junior Elena Leon (West Des Moines, Iowa /Valley).
Sophomore Jenna DeLong (Dalton Gardens, Idaho/Coeur d'Alene)
started the second inning the same way Leon began the first, with a lead-off
home run. The Bulldogs added three more runs in the inning to round out their
scoring. Torey Craddock (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic) tripled to left
field and then scored on an illegal pitch. Junior Mandy Osborn (Blair, Neb./Blair)
and Leon each collected a walk, advancing to third and second, respectively on
a wild pitch. Sophomore Erin Bly (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way East) singled to
right field, scoring Osborn and Leon.
A hit by pitch and three singles in the top of the third, giving Texas Tech two runs and concluding the scoring for the game.
DeLong led Drake with two hits while Leon, Bly and Craddock
collected one hit apiece.
