ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. ? Drake defeated Wisconsin 2-1, scoring
one run in the bottom of the seventh, Sunday (Feb. 22) at the New Mexico Invitational.
The Bulldogs, who improved to 7-3, exacted some revenge
against the Badgers for a late-inning loss yesterday.
Freshman Torey Craddock (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic) doubled to right center field
in the bottom of the first inning, scoring junior Bridget Shields (Iowa City, Iowa/West) who had reached base on a
fielder's choice.
Wisconsin tied the score in the top of the seventh off an
Alexis Garcia home run to left center.
Sophomore Molly McClelland (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley) led off the bottom of the seventh
with a walk, advancing to second on a wild pitch. Rose Magaddino (Tucson, Ariz./Canyon Del Oro), pinch hitting for
junior Carrie Hatfield (Des Moines,
Iowa/East), singled to right center, advancing McClelland to third. Junior Elena Leon (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley)
drew a walk, loading the bases for Shields, who singled down the left-field
line, scoring McClelland and securing the 2-1 victory for the Bulldogs.
Sophomore
Brynne Dordel (Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska) went the distance in the circle for
Drake, collecting nine strikeouts and allowing five hits and five walks.
Shields led Drake with two hits while Erin Bly (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way East), Craddock and Magaddino
each collected one hit apiece.
