STILLWATER, OKLA. - The Drake softball team improved to 11-5
with a 9-5 win over Northern Colorado at the Mizuno Classic hosted by Oklahoma
State.
Sophomore Brynne Dordel (Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska) improved to 6-1, going six innings, striking
out nine and walking four.
Drake scored six runs on six hits in the bottom of the
second started by a homerun to left field by Sonya Brauchle (Orono, Minn./Orono). Two batters later Elena Leon (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley)
hit the second Bulldog home run of the inning, scoring Mandy Osborn (Blair, Neb./Blair) who reached base on a walk. Three consecutive
singles by Bridget Shields (Iowa
City, Iowa/West), Erin Bly (Frankfort,
Ill./Lincoln Way East) and Torey Craddock (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic) loaded the bases for Molly McClelland (West Des Moines,
Iowa/Valley) who was hit by a pitch.
Jenna DeLong (Dalton Gardens, Idaho/Coeur d'Alene) then doubled to center field,
scoring Bly and Craddock.
Northern Colorado scored one run in the third, two in the
fourth and one in the fifth to cut the lead to 6-4.
The Bulldogs answered with three runs in the fifth with
Osborn stealing home on a first and third situation. Bly capped the scoring
with a two-run home-run scored Leon who collected a base on balls.
Senior Stefanie Clayton (Semora, N.C./Person) threw the final inning, allowing three hits
and one run.
Drake had 12 hits in the game led by DeLong with three and
Leon, Bly and McClelland with two apiece.
