PEORIA,
ILL. - Drake junior Elena Leon (West
Des Moines, Iowa/Valley) scored
both of the Bulldogs' runs in a 2-1 win in the first game of a Missouri Valley
Conference doubleheader at Bradley Saturday. Bradley won game two, 5-1.
Leon
hit her 11th home run of the season in the first at bat of the game,
giving Drake an early 1-0 lead.
Bradley
scored in the bottom of the first, tying the game at 1-1.
Junior Bridget Shields (Iowa City, Iowa/West)
singled down on the right field line in the third inning, scoring Leon who drew
a walk and stole second earlier in the inning.
Sophomore
Jenna
DeLong (Dalton Gardens, Idaho/Coeur d'Alene) pitched her second
complete-game in as many days, allowing three hits and striking out seven in
the victory.
In
the second game Drake scored one run in the third inning when freshman Torey Craddock (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe
Catholic) executed a squeeze play, scoring Leon.
Bradley
scored two runs in the fourth inning, one run in the fifth inning and two more
in the sixth inning.
Sophomore
Brynne Dordel (Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska)
collected the loss, moving to 9-8 on the season. She struck out four and
allowed four hits over five innings.
Drake,
which falls to 26-17 (11-5 MVC), left nine players on base and collected six
hits in the loss.
The
Bulldogs host Creighton Tuesday (April 21) at 4 p.m.
