Bulldogs Fall To Creighton, 2-1

DES MOINES, IOWA -- The Drake softball team's seventh-inning rally came up short as the Bulldogs fell to league-leading Creighton, 2-1, in a Missouri Valley Conference match-up Tuesday.

Drake, which moves to 26-18 (11-6 MVC), scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Erin Bly (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way East) singled up the middle, scoring Torey Craddock (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic), who who reached second on an error by the center fielder to start the inning.

Jenna DeLong (Dalton Gardens, Idaho/Coeur d'Alene) singled and Carrie Hatfield (Des Moines, Iowa/East) walked to load the bases before Tara Oltman struck out Kelsey Kahler (North Liberty, Iowa/Clear Creek-Amana) for the game's final out.

Creighton opened the scoring in the fifth inning with two runs off two hits.

DeLong (16-8) threw a complete game, striking out six and allowing five hits in the loss.

Bridget Shields (Iowa City, Iowa/West), Craddock, Bly and DeLong each collected one hit for the Bulldogs.

Drake travels to Kansas for a 7 p.m. contest Thursday (April 23) and then to Wichita State for a doubleheader Saturday (April 25) and a single game Sunday (April 26), both scheduled to begin at noon.
