ORLANDO, FLA. -
The Drake University softball team topped Central Florida, 5-0, Wednesday night
behind a three-hit shutout by junior pitcher Jenna DeLong.
DeLong (Dalton Gardens, Idaho) tossed seven shutout innings
and allowed just three hits while striking out three for her eighth win of the
year.
Drake plated its first run of the day on a third-inning squeeze
bunt by Erin Mollohan (Tinley Park, Ill.) that scored Lindsey Vande Wall (Prairie
City, Iowa).
The Bulldogs scored three runs in the third, including
two on senior Carrie Hatfield's (Des Moines, Iowa) two-run double that scored
Bridget Shields (Iowa City, Iowa) and DeLong.
Shields scored Torey Craddock (Tucson, Ariz.) in the
sixth with an RBI single to center.
Junior Molly McClelland (West Des Moines, Iowa) hit her
second homer of the season to plate Drake's final run of the game in the
seventh.
The Bulldogs improved to a Missouri Valley
Conference-best 15-6 overall.
Drake meets Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers, Fla. Thursday
at 5 p.m.
