DES MOINES, IOWA -
Pitcher Brynne Dordel tossed a
four-hit shutout to lead the Drake University softball team to a 2-0 Missouri
Valley Conference victory over Bradley, Sunday. The junior faced the minimum
over the last three innings of the contest to earn her ninth victory of the
season.
The Drake offense stranded 11 runners on the afternoon,
but drove in enough to support Dordel (Chanhassen, Minn.), who struck out six
in a complete-game effort.
Drake scored the first run of the game in the fourth off
a bases-loaded infield single by senior Elena Leon (West Des Moines, Iowa) that scored junior Jenna DeLong (Dalton Gardens, Idaho) and gave the Bulldogs a 1-0
advantage.
Drake added to its total in the fifth when sophomore Torey Craddock (Tucson, Ariz.) reached
on a three-base error by the Bradley centerfielder and scored on an RBI double
by junior Erin Mollohan (Tinley
Park, Ill.).
The Bulldogs improved to 18-7 overall and 2-1 in the MVC.
Bradley fell to 11-14 overall and 2-3 in the Valley.
Drake travels to Lincoln, Neb. to take on
Nebraska in a Tuesday doubleheader. First pitch is at 3 p.m.
