What's Ahead: After a strong showing at the Iowa State Open, the Drake women's track and field team will travel to Lawrence, Kan. to participate in the Jayhawk Classic. Competition at the Anschutz Pavilion will last all day.
Last Time Out: Senior Ari Curtis (Fort Collins, Colo.) won the long jump and finished second in the 400-meter dash at the Iowa State Open last Friday and Saturday (Jan. 21-22).
Curtis won the long jump with a leap of 18 feet 3.75 inches, while she ran a time of 56.24 in the 400 posting the third-best mark in school history.
Three Bulldogs turned in stellar efforts in the 60-meter hurdles as sophomore Marissa Smith (Ajax, Ontario), sophomore Sarah Yeager (Ottumwa, Iowa) and Curtis finished second, third and fourth, respectively. Smith was clocked in 8.96, Yeager in 9.09 and Curtis in 9.09 as well.
Senior Tyse Samani (Kansas City, Mo.) was third in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet 7 inches.
Senior Casey McDermott (Newton, Iowa), in her first race of the indoor season, was fourth in the seeded 3,000-meter race crossing the finish line in 9:59:56.
Senior Johanna Sprang (New Brighton, Minn.) placed fourth in the seeded pole vault with a leap of 10-11.75.
Senior Beth Hamling (Council Bluffs, Iowa) finished sixth in the 200 meter dash recording a 25.51.
Senior Cambria Pardner (Aurora, Colo.) registered an eighth-place finish in the triple jump and was 11th in the final heat of the 60-meter race. Pardner's triple jump leap was measured at 35-08.75, while she was clocked at 7.92 in the 60-meter race.
Senior Meredith Bell (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) registered a ninth place finish in the seeded 5,000 meter race clocking a 18:18.24.
Up Next: Drake will travel to Lincoln, Neb. next weekend (Feb. 4-5) to partake in the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational
