STOCKTON, Calif. -
The Drake University softball team split its Tuesday (March 15) slate at
Pacific, downing Northern Illinois, 7-2, and falling to Pacific, 2-1. Drake's record
moved to 11-11 on the season.
Junior Torey Craddock (Tucson, Ariz.) and senior Jenna DeLong (Dalton Gardens, Idaho) tallied home runs on the day with Craddock's
serving as the lone run in the game two setback to Pacific.
DeLong, in addition, earned the win against the Huskies,
allowing two runs on five hits and striking out nine in seven innings of work
to move her record to 6-4 overall. The win was the 49th of her career, tying
her with Sarah Haak (1996-99) for
fourth all-time at Drake.
Senior pitcher Brynne Dordel (Chanhassen, Minn.), produced a similar line in her game two start,
tossing six innings and allowing two runs on seven hits. Dordel took the
hard-luck loss, however, to fall to 4-7 on the season.
Tiger pitcher Tori Shepard tossed a one-hitter to stifle
the Drake offense in game two, allowing only Craddock's first-inning homer to
improve to 4-2 on the season.
The Bulldogs tallied five hits in the opener against
Northern Illinois, including DeLong's fourth home run of the season in a five-run
sixth inning. The Bulldogs were aided by five Huskie errors, including three in
the decisive sixth.
Sophomore Sam West
(Kearney, Mo.) continued a productive week at the plate with two hits on the
day and, along with junior Jaimie Duffek
(Brookfield, Ill.), was the only Bulldog to score twice. Craddock finished both
contests 1-for-3 and raised her batting average to .296 on the year, trailing
only DeLong (.355) and West (.318) on the Drake stat sheet.
Drake wraps up its trip through California with a
doubleheader at St. Mary's College. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. central
time.
