Bulldogs Move To 10-1 In MVC Play With 6-0 Victory At Wichita State

WICHITA, Kan. – Senior pitcher Jenna DeLong tossed a one-hit shutout to power the Drake University softball team to a 6-0 Missouri Valley Conference victory Sunday at Wichita state. The win moved the Bulldogs to a conference-best 10-1 in MVC play and 24-13 overall.

DeLong (Dalton Gardens, Idaho) held a no-hitter through five and struck out eight for her team-best 13th victory of the season. The win also was DeLong's MVC-leading sixth of the conference season. Her eight strikeouts gave her 668 for her career – two shy of Laurie Bowden's (1990-93) Drake career record of 670.

Junior Torey Craddock (Tucson, Ariz.) plated Drake's first four runs of the game with a third-inning grand slam. The homer, Craddock's eighth of the season, scored Jaimie Duffek (Brookfield, Ill.), DeLong and Amy Pierce (Olathe, Kan.) and gave the Bulldogs an early, 4-0 lead.

Senior Molly McClelland (West Des Moines, Iowa) slammed her seventh home run of the season two batters later, giving Drake a 5-0 lead after three innings.

Sam West (Kearney, Mo.) scored on an error in the fourth to pad the Bulldog advantage to six runs.

Senior catcher Erin Mollohan (Tinley Park, Ill.) tallied two of Drake's six hits. Pierce went 0-for-3 at the plate, snapping a season-long 10-game hit streak.

The Bulldogs open a two-game, midweek series with Iowa State Tuesday at Ron Buel Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
