Drake Completes Sweep With 7-0 Victory Over UNI

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University softball team improved to 13-1 in Missouri Valley Conference play and 27-15 overall with a 7-0 victory over UNI Sunday at Ron Buel Field. The win gave the Bulldogs a series sweep over UNI and kept the team atop the MVC standings.

Junior Torey Craddock (Tucson, Ariz.) went 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored to lead the Bulldogs from the plate. Craddock improved her season batting average by 14 points on the day (.317 - .331) and leads Drake with a .438 average in conference affairs.

Senior Erin Mollohan (Tinley Park, Ill.) hit her ninth home run of the season to punctuate a three-run first inning for the Bulldogs.

Craddock drove in Amy Pierce (Olathe, Kan.) in the second to move the score to 4-0. Freshman Jordan Gronewold (Carlisle, Iowa) slammed her seventh homer of the season, a solo shot in the third, to give Drake a 5-0 advantage after three innings. Craddock and Mollohan scored runs in the fourth to give Drake its final tally.

Senior pitcher Jenna DeLong (Dalton Gardens, Idaho), earned her ninth Valley win with a seven-inning four-hit shutout. The senior struck out nine to move her program-best career strikeout tally to 690.

DeLong earned all three victories against UNI this weekend and leads the conference with a 9-0 record and 66 strikeouts during conference play.

The Bulldogs meet Creighton Wednesday, April 20 in Omaha. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
