AMES, Iowa – The Drake women's track and field team wrapped up the first day at the Iowa State Open on Friday (Jan. 20) at the Lied Recreation Center with a successful performance.

Junior Marissa Smith (Ajax, Ontario) had a time of 26.06 in the 200-meter dash to snare a 19th-place finish. Sophomore Tiara Winston (Denton, Texas) was 32nd in 26.92 in the event, which had 66 competitors.

In the distance medley relay, the Drake “A” squad of freshman Melissa Parks (Norfolk, Neb.), sophomore Whitney Westrum (Waukee, Iowa), senior Kirsten Lake (Parker, Colo.) and freshman Mariel Fulton (Louisville, Colo.) finished eighth in 12:28.68.

Competition will resume on Saturday (Jan. 21) at 10 a.m.
