TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Drake Bulldogs
(10-14, 3-0 MVC) swept the series against the Indiana State Sycamores (11-10,
0-3 MVC) to open 2012 Missouri Valley Conference play. Drake won 2-0 on Sunday
after taking the first two games against ISU on Saturday afternoon.
On Sunday, Drake
sophomore Jordan Gronewold
(Carlisle, Iowa) pitched four innings and allowed just three hits and struck
out four to improve to 8-10 on the season. Rebekah Schmidt (Cottage Grove, Minn.) came on in relief for Gronewold for three
innings to earn her third save.
Lindsey Vande Wall (Prairie City, Iowa) drove Amy Pierce (Olathe, Kan.) home
in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly to put the Bulldogs on the
scoreboard, 1-0.
Senior
Jaimie Duffek (Brookfield, Ill.)
drove home the other Bulldog run in the seventh inning with an RBI single to
plate Vande Wall.
Duffek,
Pierce and Torey Craddock (Tucson,
Ariz.) each had one hit on Sunday for Drake.
The
Bulldogs will open their home schedule next Saturday, March 24 with Bradley.
The series will begin on Saturday with a doubleheader and
conclude on Sunday. Each day the games start at noon.
