EVANSVILLE,
Ind. - Rebekah Schmidt (Cottage Grove, Minn.) pitched seven innings and
struck out nine batters as the Drake Bulldogs completed a three-game sweep of
the Evansville Purple Aces with a 7-3 win Sunday afternoon.
Drake
(23-27, 14-10 MVC) scored seven runs on 11 hits and held Evansville (15-35,
5-19 MVC) to three runs and six hits. The Bulldogs scored three runs in the
fourth inning and four runs in the sixth on their way to the win.
Three
sophomores had great games Sunday for the blue and white. Nicole Randel
(Alpine, Calif.) finished 3-for-4 at the plate with one run and one RBI to lead
all hitters and Liz Buck (Overland Park, Kan.) was 2-for-4 with a run
scored. Amy Pierce (Olathe, Kan.) went 1-for-2 with two RBI and two
stolen bases, and she leads the team and the MVC with 22 swipes this season.
Six Bulldogs
recorded at least one hit in the game. Schmidt helped herself at the plate with
an RBI base hit in the fourth as she improved her record to 7-8 and she also
had nine strikeouts in yesterday's second game.
Drake will
play its final five regular season games at Ron Buel Field this week. Wednesday
night Nebraska Omaha will travel east to Des Moines for a non-conference
doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. Three seniors Torey Craddock (Tucson,
Ariz.), Jaimie Duffek (Brookfield, Ill.) and Rose Magaddino
(Tucson, Ariz.) will play their final home games Saturday and Sunday when the
Wichita State Shockers come to town. A doubleheader will be played Saturday
beginning at 12 p.m. and the final game of the series will be Sunday and it
will also start at 12 p.m.
