CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Drake University track and field teams' sprinters earned 13 top-10 finishes at the Jack Jennett Invitational  this weekend at the UNI-Dome.

The women's squad turned in four top-10 performances in the 60 meter with Danyelle Cole's (Kansas City, Kan.) second-place and personal best  time of 7.71. Ariel Kinlow (Brown Deer, Wis.) made her 2014 debut in fourth place at 7.81 while Tiara Winston (Denton, Texas) and Jessica Campbell (West Des Moines, Iowa) were fifth and sixth in 7.83 and 7.92, respectively.

“The women saw solid performances in the sprints with Danyelle, Tiara, Ariel and Jessica all making finals in the 60 meters,” said Drake head coach Natasha Kaiser-Brown. “And the same foursome raced well in the 200 meters with Cole placing second overall.”

Cole turned in a personal best time of 25.64 to earn that place while Winson was sixth in 25.84. Campbell and Kinlow followed in eighth and 10^th, respectively.

For the men's sprinters, Kai Asberry (Carrollton, Texas) was fifth in the 60 meters in 7.11 and returned later in the afternoon to finish third in the 400 meters with a 49.74 finish. Ian Wells (Champaign, Ill.) trailed closely in fourth at 49.78. Travis Marsh (Ankeny, Iowa) and Steven Jordan (McFarland, Wis.) were fifth and sixth in helping the Bulldogs claim four of the top 10 spots in the event.

“It was good to see the 400-meter crew of Kai, Ian, Travis and Steven dominate the event by taking third-to-sixth place,” Kaiser-Brown said.

The men's team also had the Bulldogs' only event winner of the meet with Rob McCann (Mississauga, Ontario) winning the mile in 4:15.94. Cassie Aerts (David City, Neb.) was fourth in the women's race in 5:14.79.

“He ran a very aggressive race by working his way to front pack and staying in contention to out kick the leaders,” Kaiser-Brown said of McCann's race.

Also on the track, Destani Welch (Des Moines, Iowa) turned in a personal best time of 8.86 to take second in the 60-meter hurdles.

The field events also saw the Bulldogs turn in solid performance with Sean Buczek (Crystal Lake, Ill.) finishing third in the triple jump at 42-7.5 and Johnathan Osifuye (St. Paul, Minn.) clear 22-6.5 to finish fifth in the long jump. Kayla Bell (Bollingbrook, Ill.) continued her strong season by finishing third in the triple jump with a leap of 38-6.

Drake also made its season debut in the multi-events with Jeffrey Foreman (Winfield, Ill.) finishing third in his first ever heptathlon competition with 4,470 points.

“He did a great job pacing himself through each event and staying focused,” Kaiser-Brown said of Foreman's performance.

He made his biggest surge in the standings with an 8.80 finish in the 60-meter hurdles to earn 791 points. He also won the 1,000-meter event with a time of 2:50.00.

The Bulldogs continue their indoor season next weekend at Nebraska's Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.
