Track And Field Continues To Post Personal Bests At Musco Twilight

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The  Drake University track and field teams continued to post progressively better marks as they lined up against Big Ten and Big 12 competition on Saturday evening at the University of Iowa's Musco Twilight meet.

The men's team had eight scoring performances in the seven-team meet while the women's squad had 11 such showings against the talented field.

Leading the way for the men's team was Andy Curtis (Manchester, Iowa) who uncorked a huge personal best in the hammer throw with a toss of 196-3 to better his previous best by nearly seven feet. Curtis also finished sixth in the discus while David Silkman (Leawood, Kan.) and Phillip Beeler (Lenexa, Kan.) were fourth and fifth in the javelin with tosses of 180-0 and 179-5, respectively.

The women's team earned most of its points on the track in the 200 meters with four runners finishing in the top eight. Tiara Winston (Denton, Texas) led the way with a personal best of 25.01 with Ariel Kinlow (Brown Deer, Wis.) trailing closely in fifth in 25.53. Sarah Yeager (Ottumwa, Iowa) and Danyelle Cole (Kansas City, Kan.) rounded out the Bulldogs' scoring in the event. Cole also turned in a personal best in the 100 meters with a 12.12 finish to take fifth place.

Cole, Winston and Kinlow also combined with Jessica Campbell (West Des Moines, Iowa) to take third in the 4x100-meter relay in 46.48.

Nebraska won the scored meet in both the men's and women's standings with 190 and 221.5 points, respectively. Drake's women finished fifth in the seven-team field while the men were sixth.

The Bulldogs continue their outdoor season next weekend at UNI's Messersmith Invitational. That meet will serve as the squad's final tune-up before the Missouri Valley Conference Championship.
