BURLINGTON, Iowa – The Drake University women's golf team posted its lowest round of the spring in the opening round of the Missouri Valley Conference Championship with a score of 312 at Spirit Hollow Golf Course on Sunday.
The Bulldogs stand in sixth-place and are just 11 shots behind first-place Wichita State (301).
“I'm pleased with the way the team played today, we've had a tough spring but they brought their games today,” said Drake head coach Leanne Smith. “I am excited for Madison (Glennie) and Katie (Clausen) for putting themselves in such a great position after the first round, and we are looking forward to improving tomorrow.”
Freshman Madison Glennie (Clearwater, Fla.) carded her lowest round of the spring with a score of 74, good for tied for fourth. Katie Clausen (Hinton, Iowa) shot a career-best 75 and is tied for ninth, while senior Danielle Brooks (Red Wing, Minn.) recorded a 78 to finish the first 18 holes tied for 21st. Fellow senior Ashley Brooks (Red Wing, Minn.) and freshman Brooke Miller (Pomona, Calif.) rounded out the Bulldogs' effort with an 85 and 87, respectively.
The Bulldogs will play the second round of the conference tournament on Monday with tee times set to start at 9 a.m.
