Men’s Tennis Tabbed As Summit League Preseason Favorite

The Bulldogs were the unanimous favorite to win the league in their second year as a member of the conference.

The Drake University men's tennis team is projected to repeat as the 2019 Summit League Champions based on the league's annual preseason poll. The Bulldogs were the unanimous favorite to win the league in their second year as a member of the conference.

Drake led the poll with 36 total points and all six of the possible first-place votes. Denver was tabbed second with 31 points followed by Valparaiso in third place.

In addition to the Bulldogs' preseason honor, senior Vinny Gillespie was selected as one of the league's nine Preseason Athletes to Watch.

Gillespie is a returning all-conference talent who won 14 singles matches last season.

The Bulldogs return their entire roster from their 2018 Summit League Championship team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 11th time in program history.

Drake is set to begin its 2019 spring season Jan. 19 when it hosts Northern Illinois at the Roger Knapp Center.
