Drake Men’s Cross Country Wins Bradley Pink Classic Title

Bulldogs outrace talented field with a strong team race

PEORIA, Ill. - Led by five runners in the top 30, the Drake University men's cross country team earned first-place honors in the Red Race of the Bradley Pink Classic Friday afternoon. 

The Bulldogs' team score of 81 was the best in the deep 20-team field to help the team hold off Illinois, who finished 33 points behind Drake. Drake's strong team race created just a 34-second gap between its first and final scorers, the second smallest margin in the field. 

Sophomore newcomer Adam Fogg led the team with a strong race, finishing in 24:35.3 on the 8-kilometer course to finish 10th overall. Kyle Brandt trailed him closely in 12th place with a time of 24:40.0. 

Maximilian Fridrich followed in 20th place while freshman Isaac Basten and senior Matt Cozine rounded out the scoring in 26th and 37th places, respectively. 

Making the Bulldogs' title run even more impressive was the absence of Kevin Kelly, one of the team's top two runners all season, who the coaching staff elected to rest this weekend.

In addition to Illinois and Marquette, Drake also bested conference rivals Loyola, UNI, Illinois State, Valparaiso and Bradley in the men's race. 

Drake's women's team finished 17th in the 23-team women's field and four Bulldogs finished in the top 100 of the 180-runner race.

Rachel Selva had the best race for the Bulldogs on the 6-kilometer course at she clocked a time of 22:11.9 to finish 39th. Millie Bretl was the next Bulldog across the line in 22:31.6. Seniors Olivia Rogers and MyKaela Cole were also in the top 100 with 65th and 78th place finishes, respectively.

The Bradley Pink Classic was the Bulldogs' final competition before the team lines up at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship Oct. 27 in Valparaiso, Ind.
