Men’s Cross Country Takes Second At MVC Championship; Women Eighth

Bulldogs record their highest team finish since 2006

VALPARAISO, Ind. - The Drake University men's cross country team earned its best finish at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship in 13 years with a second-place finish Saturday morning. All five of the Bulldogs' scorers finished in the top 25 to lift the team to runner-up honors. Drake's women's team finished eighth in its competition.

Valparaiso hosted this year's championship at Sunset Hill Farm County Park.

Bradley took home top honors with all five of its runners finishing in the top seven, but the Drake men turned in a strong performance following its team title at the Bradley Pink Classic in mid-October. Finishing with a team score of 74, the men pulled in a solid second-place finish twenty points ahead of third-place UNI.

Senior Kyle Brandt was the top runner for the Bulldogs, taking ninth overall with a time of 25:19.90 to earn all-conference honors on the 8-kilometer course, while fellow senior Kevin Kelly took 17th as the team's fourth scorer at 25:37.19 in his return to the course after sitting out the last meet.

Sophomore Adam Fogg continued his stellar season with a 12th-place finish in his Valley debut and a time of 25:29.10. Maximilian Fridrich followed closely in 15th and freshman Isaac Basten completed Drake's scoring in 21st.

Drake's women's team finished in eighth with 215 points. Olivia Rogers led the team taking 28th overall with a time of 19:21.28, and fellow senior MyKaela Cole turned in a 37th-place performance in 19:39.33 on the 5-kilometer course. Lindsey Rowatt stepped up to round out the Bulldog top five taking 63rd and running under 21 minutes.

Loyola easily won the women's title with 17 points.

Both teams will head to Stillwater, Okla. for the NCAA Midwest Regional meet on November 15.
