Rowing Closes Fall Season against Creighton

Creighton defeated Drake in three official races and retained the traveling trophy awarded each fall to the winner in the duel between the longtime rivals.

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University rowing team closed its fall season Saturday, Nov. 10 morning against Creighton on the Des Moines River.

Creighton defeated Drake in three official races and retained the traveling trophy awarded each fall to the winner in the duel between the longtime rivals. Drake and Creighton resumed their rivalry that is in its 27th year, but didn't take place in 2018 due to flooding on the Des Moines River. Creighton won the trophy in the last meeting in 2017.

The Bluejays accumulated the most points in three races: varsity 8+, 2nd varsity 8+ and varsity 4 in a best 2-out-3 format in each race. Following the official races, the two teams competed in several novice exhibition races and one varsity exhibition race. Drake won the novice 8 exhibitions with its boats sweeping the best of three format.

"Hats off to Creighton today, who had a really good day on the water," said head coach Charlie DiSilvestro. "We congratulate them on retaining the trophy. We gave it our best shot today. We will learn from this use to build to get stronger for the spring."

Drake will resume training in January, 2020 when they make their annual winter training trip south with this season's trip taking place in Natchitoches, La. Check back later to www.GoDrakeBulldogs.com for the program's 2020 spring schedule once it is official.
