LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Drake University track and field team's throwers continued the program's resurgence as freshman
Katelyn Williams posted the teams' second-best recorded mark in the women's hammer throw in school history Thursday evening at the Kansas Relays.
Williams' throw of 168-10 (51.46m) earned her second place in the competition, just seven inches behind the winner.
Williams was one of a limited number of Bulldogs in action Thursday night on the first night of the Kansas Relays.
Maximilian Fridrich made his season debut on the track and took 11th in the unseeded section of the 5,000 meters in 15:06.96, just four seconds off his personal best.
In the women's unseeded 5,000 meters,
Rachel Selva continued to run well, finishing sixth in 17:30.08 to narrowly miss a personal best.
Olivia Rogers claimed fifth in the unseeded 1,500 meters at 4:48.98.
The women's unseeded 800 meters yielded a pair of top-five finishes with
Meghan Kearney taking fourth in 2:16.80 followed by Tess Misgen in fifth at 2:17.96.
The Bulldogs resume action at Rock Chalk Park Friday morning with a full day of competition on the slate.
