GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Drake University rowing team is set to compete at its final regular season regatta, the 2019 MACRA Championships, this Sunday, April 28. The one day event will be contested on the Grand River in Comstock Riverside Park.
Drake will have boats entered in the varsity 8+, 2
nd varsity 8+ and the varsity 4+ races.
"Unfortunately this is going to be another regatta for us with no water practice before," said Drake head coach
Charlie DiSilvestro. "We enjoyed a nice break for Easter and in a difficult year with so much extra rowing machine time it was a break from the grind we needed."
Drake will compete against clubs and teams from DePaul, Grand Valley State, Eastern Michigan, Marquette, Mercyhurst and Miami of Ohio.
"We're looking forward to seeing teams we see typically see once a year," DiSilvestro said. "We hope to practice on Saturday so we're excited to get back on the water besides competition on Sunday. This will be final tune up for conference and will be a good test for us before we head to conference May 19."
After MACRA, Drake will have a break before it travels to Princeton, N.J. on May 19 for the 2019 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship.
