The Drake University men's cross country team recorded a first place finish for the first time since 1999 Friday afternoon at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship. The Bulldogs also took the top three spots for individual finishes.

The 1999 Bulldogs finished with 51 points and in 2016 Reed Fischer finished first with a time of 24:31.8. 
 
After battling through the rain and mud on the course, Isaac Basten and Adam Fogg were neck-and-neck for the last 1,000 meters of the race. Basten crossed the finish line first to end with an overall time of 24:13.0 and Fogg finished six milliseconds after with a time of 24:13.6.

After the race, Basten was named Cross Country Athlete of the Year. 
 
Trailing the two was freshman Aziz Jdai, who placed third overall with a time of 24:28.5.
 
Freshman of the Year, Enzo Marie, was at the front of the group for a good portion of the race with Basten, Fogg, and Jdai. Marie ended in sixth place.
 
Drake accumulated 20 points in the race and Bradley, who was picked to take first in the pre championship poll, took second place with 53 total points.
 
The women's team finished fifth at the Championship earlier in the day.
 
As predicted in the pre championship poll, the top three spots went Loyola, Bradley, and Illinois State.
 
Freshman Brooke Mullins was the highest finisher for the women in 11^th place. Mullins finished exactly one minute after Anneka Murrin from Loyola who took first place.
 
Fellow freshman Tyla Lumley finished just over 30 seconds after Mullins and placed 20^th overall in the race.
 
The Bulldogs return to action on Nov. 12 at the NCAA Midwest Region Championship in Iowa City.
