The Drake University cross country teams travel to Missouri Valley Conference rival Illinois State to compete at the Redbird invitational Friday, Sept. 17.
The women's 6,000m race will go off at 5 p.m. followed by the men's 8,000m race at 5:45 p.m. The race will give the Bulldogs' a preview of the same venue, the Weibring Golf Club, that will host the MVC Championship in November. The field will also feature a host of MVC teams with UNI, Valparaiso, SIU and Loyola set to join the Bulldogs and Redbirds. Non-conference foes Southern Indiana, Illinois, Marquette, SEMO, DePaul, SIUE, Northern Illinois and Northwestern are set to compete as well.
The Bulldogs are coming off an impressive first weekend. The men will look to build off of their fourth place team finish at the Hawkeye Invite two weeks ago which earned newcomer Enzo Marie MVC Runner of the Week for his third-place performance (18:22.8) in the 6,000m race.
The women will continue to look to newcomers like Brooke Mullins who led the Bulldogs at the Hawkeye Invite with her fifth place finish in the 4,000m race (14:09.44) and Emilie Meyer who finished 36th overall with a time of (14:55.74).
Following this week's competition, the Bulldogs head to Columbia, Mo. Oct. 1 for the Gans Creek Classic.
