DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University track & field throwers got off to a strong start in the 2022 outdoor season as a group of Bulldog student-athletes competed at the Viking Relays at Grand View University on Saturday (March 26).
In the men's distance events,
Pur Biel took third in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:05.44 and
Chris Pahnke placed second in the 5000 meter run (15:12.79).
In the men's shot put,
Adam Phillips claimed first place at 16.39 meters.
Austin Jentz won the men's discus at 50.28 meters for fourth all-time in Drake outdoor program history. Phillips finished in fourth (47.61 meters), which is seventh in school history.
Five Bulldogs (
Anthony Barmes,
Ethan Marshall, Phillips,
Joey Harkins and Jentz) logged top-10 performances in the men's hammer throw led by Barmes (61.26 meters), who now sits second all-time at Drake.
Gracie Shannon (2:27.53) won the women's 800 meter run followed by Meghan Coulter (2:30.12) in second and
Maia Italia in fourth (2:35.09).
Madysen Klebenow (19:16.74) came in third in the women's 5000 meter run.
Chandler Haight registered a shot put of 13.28 meters. Haight's final discus throw of 45.91 meters ranked seventh in school history.
Katelyn Williams won the women's hammer throw with a toss of 52.27 meters as
Centaine Noom-Duckworth (49.67 meters) was third.
Up next on the schedule for Drake track & field is the John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., April 7-8.
