THE BASICS
The Drake track & field program will compete in Fayetteville, Ark., for the John McDonnell Invitational hosted by Arkansas April 7-8. The men's and women's hammer throw events will be conducted on Thursday, April 7 with every other event getting underway on Friday, April 8.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM VIKING RELAYS
A select amount of Drake track & field athletes began the outdoor season on March 26 at the Viking Relays hosted by nearby Grand View University in Des Moines.
In the men's shot put,
Adam Phillips claimed first place at 16.39 meters.
Austin Jentz won the men's discus at 50.28 meters for fourth all-time in Drake outdoor program history. Phillips finished in fourth (47.61 meters), which is seventh in school history.
Five Bulldogs (
Anthony Barmes,
Ethan Marshall, Phillips,
Joey Harkins and Jentz) logged top-10 performances in the men's hammer throw led by Barmes (61.26 meters), who now sits second all-time at Drake.
Gracie Shannon (2:27.53) won the women's 800 meter run followed by Meghan Coulter (2:30.12) in second and
Maia Italia in fourth (2:35.09).
Madysen Klebenow (19:16.74) came in third in the women's 5000 meter run.
Chandler Haight registered a shot put of 13.28 meters. Haight's final discus throw of 45.91 meters ranked seventh in school history.
Katelyn Williams won the women's hammer throw with a toss of 52.27 meters as
Centaine Noom-Duckworth (49.67 meters) was third.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM MVC INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
Jaymie O'Connor won the first gold medal of the day after compiling 3,357 points in the women's pentathlon (60 hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800 meter run). That score ranks seventh in the Drake women's indoor track & field record book.
Brooke Mullins took second place in the women's 5000 meter run with a personal record of 16:37.03, which ranks second in the Drake women's indoor track & field record book.
Jack Zettl also turned in a PR (14:27.69) in the men's 5000 meter run for fifth place as well as fifth all-time in the Drake men's indoor track & field record book.
Joey Harkins also earned a silver medal in the men's weight throw with a top toss of 19.95 meters, which now ranks third in the Drake men's indoor track & field record book.
Ethan Marshall finished in fifth place with a weight throw of 18.97 meters.
Cloud Masibhera found a place on the podium in the long jump with a bronze medal after leaping 7.40 meters, which ranks seventh in the Drake men's indoor track & field record book.
Jaymie O'Connor won her second gold medal of the MVC Indoor Championships by recording a season-best time 8.50 in the 60 meter hurdles.
Adam Fogg destroyed the previous MVC Indoor Championships mile run record of 4:02.10 after finishing with a time of 3:56.89, which ranks third in the Drake men's indoor track & field record book. Emilie Mayer just missed the podium in the women's 800 meter run by coming in fourth place with a time of 2:11.12, which ranks seventh in the Drake women's indoor track & field record book.
Busiwa Asinga (55.25) and
Briandrias Rhodes (55.46) earned gold and silver in the women's 400 meter dash. Asinga's time is now third in the Drake women's indoor track & field record book while Rhodes is sixth.
Cloud Masibhera earned another bronze medal with a triple jump of 14.65 meters, which ranks ninth in the Drake men's indoor track & field record book.
The Drake men's track & field team finished fifth (54) and the women's squad finished seventh (62).
