Track & Field Preview: NCAA Outdoor National Championships

Basten and Barmes look to punctuate stellar 2023-24 campaign

Who's Competing
Anthony Barmes and Isaac Basten will again represent the Drake University track & field program at the 2024 Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Basten and Barmes are set to take the Bulldogs to the national stage for the third year in a row, this time at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. from June 5-8.

Anthony Barmes, an MVC champion and Olympic hopeful hailing from New Zealand, earned his spot at nationals after a seventh-place finish in the hammer. Barmes fired off a throw of 69.07m/226'-7" at the NCAA West Prelims to punch his ticket to Eugene. He will look to improve upon last year's 12th place result which earned him Second Team All-American status.

One of the best to don the blue and white, Isaac Basten will compete in his final event as a Bulldog after winning another league crown. He was fourth in his heat in the 1500 and advanced to the West Region Prelim finals where he came in 11th with a time of 3:41.06. Last year, Basten opened national competition with a 3:39.72 time in the semifinals and later earned First Team All-America honors with a top five finish.
