CEDAR FALLS, IOWA -- The Drake women's track and field team, behind junior Caitlin Able (Aurora, Colo.) won four events at the Panther Open Saturday.
Able won the 400-meter dash in 58.99 seconds and anchored Drake to victory in the women's 4x400 relay in 4:04.67. Other members of the winning relay team were sophomore Kara McCartney (Elgin, Iowa), sophomore Ari Curtis (Fort Collins, Colo.) and freshman Cassie Toepfer (Eagan, Minn.)
McCartney also won the 600-meter run in 1:37.10, while Curtis soared 37 feet 3.25 inches to win the triple jump.
Sophomore Cambria Pardner (Aurora, Colo.) was second in the 60 (8.07) and the 200 (26.77) and fifth in the long jump (17-0).
Sophomore Clarissa LaFlora (Kewanee, Ill.) was third in the 400 in 1:01.41.
Sophomore Beth Hamling (Council Bluffs, Iowa) was fourth in the 200 (27.46), while Curtis was fifth in the 200 (27.46). Junior Sarah Havelka (Kansas City, Mo.) was fourth in the 3,000 (11:10.60). Able also placed seventh in the 60 (8.19).
Other notable performances were recorded by sophomore Johanna Sprang (New Brighton, Minn.) who was second in the pole vault (10-11.75); sophomore Molly Scott (Kansas City, Mo.), third, pole vault (10-6); freshman Erika Sevigny (Olathe, Kan.), third, shot put (40-0); and sophomore Michelle Mitchell (Brookfield, wis.), fourth, high jump (5-4.25).
Freshman Megan Pierce-Cramer (Omaha, Neb.) was fifth in the shot put (39-4), while junior Deidra Dirth (Apple Valley, Minn.) was seventh in the shot put (37-7.25).
Sophomore Tyse Samani (Kansas City, Mo.) was sixth in the high jump (5-2.25).
Hamling, LaFlora, Pardner and senior Kate Long (Herscher, Ill.) led the Drake "B" team to sixth in the 4x400 relay in 4:16.16.
