CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Drake University track and field teams closed out competition at the 2016 MVC Indoor Championship with more strong performances across an array of events on Sunday, Feb. 28.

The jumps continued to produced points for the women's team with Taryn Rolle and Kayla Bell (Bolingbrook, Ill.) finishing second and third, respectively, in the triple jump with matching leaps of 40-9.5. Rolle's jump, a personal best, ranks as the second best mark in school history while Bell's was just shy of her own school record in the event. 

The Bulldogs' distance runners put the finishing touches on a strong weekend by scoring in four events on Sunday. Reed Fischer (Minnetonka, Minn.) finished third in the 3,000 meters in 8:17.97 after turning in a second-place finish in the 5,000 meters on Saturday afternoon. 

In the women's 3,000 meters, Emma Huston (Des Moines, Iowa) took eighth in 9:48.40 to cap an outstanding weekend for the senior in her final MVC Indoor Championship. Earlier in the day on Sunday, she finished fifth in the mile in 5:02.38 and on Saturday ran the anchor leg on the Bulldogs' second-place distance medley relay team in addition to qualifying for the finals in the mile.

The men's mile also featured a Bulldog in the lead pack with Robert McCann (Mississauga, Ontario) coming in fourth in 4:15.39. Later in the day he finished 11th in the 3,000 meters in 8:31.02.

Drake got points from its sprinters and hurdlers as well with Bas Van Leersum turning in a 48.61 400 meters to finish third in his first MVC Indoor Championship. Minutes later, Pierce Vincent (Fayetteville, Ga.) matched his personal best in the 60 meters with a time of 6.83 to finish fourth in the event. Sophomore hurdler Mary Young (Urbandale, Iowa) finished in 8.58 in the 60-meter hurdles to finish third in the event for the second-straight season. 

As a team, the Drake women finished eighth in the team standings while the men were seventh. Illinois State was crowned the women's team champion and Wichita State bested the field on the men's side to claim the men's title.
