AMES, Iowa – The Drake University track and field teams recorded three performances that rank in the top-10 all-time at Drake and nine personal bests during the second day of the Iowa State Classic Saturday.

"Today and was a great day for the team," said co-interim head coach LaRon Bennett. "I asked them to give their best and expect great results."

Early in the afternoon, junior Mary Young (Urbandale, Iowa) continued to lower her personal best by clocking a time of 8.37 in her preliminary heat of the 60-meter hurdles. That time was the second fastest in school history and fastest qualifying time of the day. Later she took second in the final of the event in 8.39.

"Mary had monster PR in the hurdles," Bennett added. "We had a game plan that she executed it perfectly, but even I was shocked when I saw 8.37."

The Bulldogs' 4x400-meter relay team also turned in the sixth fastest women's time in school history with a time of 3:50.34 to take eighth place.
 
For the men, Johnathan Osifuye (Woodbury, Minn.) finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 48-3.25, a personal best for the junior and the sixth-longest jump in school history. In the women's triple jump, Taryn Rolle (Nassau, The Bahamas) was second with a jump of 40-6.75.
 
On the track, Bas Van Leersum (Zaandam, The Netherlands) was 10^th in the 400 meters in 47.84, a time that was just a third of a second off of his school record pace.
 
Select Drake athletes return to competition next weekend at Nebraska for its final tune-up before the MVC Indoor Championship.

"We will rest most of the team next weekend, in preparations for the conference meet in two weeks," Bennett said. "But I'm so proud of this family and what they've done so far this season."
