NORMAL, Ill. – Isaac Basten repeated as men's 1500m champion at the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by Illinois State at the Redbird Track & Field Complex on Sunday, May 14.
"We are really happy heading home from Normal," head coach
Jay Koloseus said. "All areas of the team produced great points. We are especially proud to have three athletes take home MVC specialty awards."
Basten claimed MVC Men's Track Most Outstanding Performer,
Brooke Mullins earned MVC Women's Track Most Outstanding Performer and to the surprise of nobody,
Anthony Barmes was the MVC Men's Field Most Outstanding Performer.
Basten ran a strategic race to pass a pair of Bradley runners during the final stretch for a winning 1500m time of 3:55.51.
Mullins took home more hardware after crossing the finish line in the women's 5000m in 16:43.36 for third place.
Busiwa Asinga medaled at another MVC Championship event, earning bronze in the women's 400m hurdles with a season-best performance of 1:00.78.
Hayden Cross qualified for the 400m final with a PR of 48.21 in the prelims the day before and finished fourth in the final after turning in a time of 48.38. Cross joined
Emilie Meyer (2:08.93 in the women's 800m),
Nate Osterstock (14:33.77 in the men's 5000m) and
Austin Jentz (171-00 in the men's discus) as Bulldogs who finished fourth just missing the podium on Sunday.
Hannah Behunin finished seventh in the women's 1500m with a time of 4:36.47.
Juan Trasobares (3:58.92) earned a point winding up eighth in in the men's 1500m.
Enzo Marie claimed eighth men's 5000m after completing the run in 14:33.77.
The Drake men's 4x400m relay team of
Joseph Kruse, Cross,
Pur Biel and
Caleb Lerus notched a fifth-place finish combining for a time of 3:21.35.
Select Drake track & field athletes will compete in the NCAA West Preliminary in Sacramento, Calif., May 24-27.
