DES MOINES, IOWA -- Drake sophomore Casey McDermott (Newton, Iowa) and senior Nicole Braunsdorf (St. Francis, Wis.) finished first and second, respectively, in the 800-meter run to key action for the Drake women's track and field team at the 33rd annual Jim Duncan Invitational Saturday at Drake Stadium.
McDermott was timed in 2 minutes 15.14 seconds to clip Braunsdorf who finished in 2:16.45. Sophomore Katie Coomer (Overland Park, Kan.) was sixth in 2:18.98.
Drake sophomore Michelle Mitchell (Brookfield, Wis.) captured the women's high jump title at five feet seven inches, while sophomore Tyse Samani (Kansas City, Mo.) tied for fourth at 5-3.
Junior Deidra Dirth (Apple Valley, Minn.) was second in the discus at 143-6.
Junior Caitlin Able (Aurora, Colo.) was fourth in the 400 in 57.26 and anchored Drake to a fourth-place finish in the 4x100 relay in 48.48 with teammates Cambria Pardner (Aurora, Colo.), Beth Hamling (Council Bluffs, Iowa) and Ari Curtis (Fort Collins, Colo.) also contributing.
Pardner also was third in the triple jump at 36-7.
Freshman Elizabeth Dunn (Harvard, Mass.) was sixth in the women's 1,500 in 4:47.73.
South Dakota State's Michelle Schuch established a Jim Duncan Invitational mark in the women's hammer throw at 178-6, breaking the record of 163-1 set by Iowa's Becca Franklin in 2005.
