LINCOLN, Neb. – The Drake track & field program resumed its indoor season with multiple student-athletes etching their names into the Bulldog indoor track & field record book at the Graduate Classic hosted by Nebraska inside the Bob Devaney Sports Center Jan. 13-14.
"The coaches and myself are pleased with our 2023 opener," head track & field coach
Jay Koloseus said. "It felt right being back on the road competing. We are more than satisfied to walk away with a number of Drake all-time Top-10 marks and a school record this early in the year. It's exciting to carry this momentum into the season."
Briandrias Rhodes (58.94) secured 10
th in the women's 400m while her teammate
Madison Bunton turned in a 400m time of 1:00.96. In the men's 400m, freshman
Hayden Cross (51.38) led the way for Drake followed closely by
Anthony Bradley (51.85).
Iris Hertting notched 10
th in the women's 600m with a time of 1:41.50 and she was joined in the vent by
Vanessa Lee (1:54.84). On the men's side in the 600m,
Joseph Kruse took eighth in 1:23.78.
Isaac Basten etched his name into the Drake men's indoor Top-10 (third all-time) with an 800m time of 1:50.77, which earned him a runner-up finish at the Graduate Classic.
Seth Simonson finished the 800m in 1:54.58 for seventh place in the meet.
Meghan Coulter (3:15.54) and
Jack Burns (2:33.08) each competed in their section of the 1000m run.
Brooke Mullins won the women's mile with a personal record of 4:51.02 to move into fifth in the Drake women's indoor record book.
Emilie Meyer (4:57.43) placed third while
Hannah Behunin (5:10.02) took eighth and
Barbara Vrhovac (5:12.53) rounded out the Top-10. On the men's side, freshman
Aidan Simon put together a mile time of 4:24.96 for 11
th.
Enzo Marie won the men's 5000m with a time of 14:43.19 to crack into the program men's indoor Top-10 chart followed by
Connor Visnic (14:55.78) in third.
Adam Phillips (54-07.25) with a PR took sixth in the men's shot put while moving into third in the Drake men's indoor record book.
Chandler Haight claimed the Drake women's indoor school record in the women's shot put (48-00.75).
Ethan Marshall (64-01.25) got fourth place to lead four Bulldogs in the men's weight throw Top-10 on Friday and settled into third on Drake's all-time indoor weight throw list.
Adam Phillips (63-09.00) took fifth while
Anthony Barmes (62-00.25) was seventh and
Austin Jentz was ninth with a PR (59-04.00). In the women's weight throw,
Centaine Noom-Duckworth took 10
th with a throw of 54-00.50.
The men's distance medley relay (Visnic, Burns,
Brendan Cain and Marie) celebrated first place with a final time of 10:14.17.
Drake track & field will participate next in the Cyclone Open at Iowa State on Saturday, Jan. 21.
